Create innovative solutions that impact communities, industries and society. Develop your solutions through:

Projects from your classes.

Created a new product during your classes that is waiting to see the world? The microinnovation grant supports the project you have developed to help extend the runway and time you need to work toward a market-ready solution.

Ground-up initiatives

Ground-up initiatives are ideas that stem from observations of your daily lives. They could be developed by observing how people face the same challenges every day and yet have not developed a solution to tackle them.

They can be independent of your curriculum.

Entrepreneurship and start-up activities.

Keen to launch a startup? SUTD VIE programmes have the right workshops and tools for your first step.

After each programme, the final presentation will be a pitching platform where you can pitch for the microinnovation grant to take your project further.

Sign up to pitch your solutions in one of the pitching platforms across the year:

Common FAQ

Common FAQ

  • Yes! However, each team will still need at least two current SUTD undergraduates or master students at the point of pitching.

  • You can pitch for your solution as many times as you like! However, the team must meet different milestones for each new grant award for the same idea.

  • All students are encouraged to embark on baby shark projects. As you incubate these new ideas, innovate through design and venture into uncharted grounds beyond the classroom, these projects will be precursors to capstone projects. Capstone projects and baby shark projects require significant time and commitment on top of your academic schedules. As we care about your mental health, we strongly encourage you to complete the baby shark projects before you start your capstone projects. Final year students who wish to embark on baby shark projects during their capstone terms should seek the approval of their academic capstone mentor. We don’t want you to be stressed out juggling two entirely different projects during your penultimate and final academic terms.
